Squirrel pest control

Squirrel pest control is not something you may have thought that you need to worry about, until the noises in the roof space started.

So you have a grey squirrel pest problem? We can inspect your premesis and help you deal with a squirrel pest control problem,  and can provide advice on proofing against squirrel's. If proofing fails then the next option is to remove the squirrel in a humane as possible way. Call our Yeovil Squirrel pest control technican on 01935 411876 for help and advice.

TOP TIP - It is ILLEGAL to catch/trap a live squirrel then release it again on somebodys elses land, this includes down the park, or local fields.etc. If you catch it, then you are obliged to despatch it in a humane way. You are also legally obliged to take care of it, and provide food and water to prevent unessasry suffering. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 any person responsible for a squirrel trap would only be responsible for any animal caught by it, not its offspring still in the wild. Under the act, it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to a kept animal (this includes live caught animals). It is an offence under section 14 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) to introduce and release grey squirrels into the wild.

Here in the UK we have two types, Red and Grey.

The red squirrel is our only native squirrel species, and was once a common sight in woodland and the countryside,  but for decades red squirrel numbers have been in decline. Red Squirrels are an endangered species, and this can be attributed to the Grey Squirrel as greys carry a disease called parapoxvirus that will infect and kill our Native reds. Grey squirrels are also more likely to consume acorns that are still green, and so decimate food stocks before the reds can get to them. Reds prefer green acorns as they are easier to digest. All of this causes stress on the red squirrel and can make them not breed as often. It goes without saying that we dont treat or control Red squirrel, although we can offer proofing advice.
